How to close an above-ground pool or semi-inground pool

Here are the steps to close your pool :

1. Stop the pump

2. Put the valve on 3 positions so that you can close the skimmer and let bottom drain open

3. Put the filter on waste or drain

4. If it's the case, unroll the pipe for the pool draining to the street

5. Start the pump

6. Lower the water level at 6 inches below the backflow

7. Stop the pump

8. Open the skimmer valve and the bottom drain valve if it's the case

9. Remove the pool jets and store them

10. Put a cap with teflon to close the jet

11. Remove slowly all the external pipes

12. Store the pipes

13. Replug all the unions and vales and assure that the valves stays open during winter

14. Remove and store the plugs of the pump and make it turn in all senses to remove all the water

15. Clean the basket of the pool pump

16. Store the pump

17. Remove and store the skimmer and its parts

18. Remove and store the filter's plug

19. Remove and store the filter's manometer

20. Remove the filter's eye made of glass with the sealing rubber.

21. Put the filter's handle in hivernate or between two positions

22. Clean the inside and outside part of the skimmer

23. Add a gallon of antifreeze in the skimmer

24. Add and fix with a a rod gray expansion of about 24'' the main drain pipe from the skimmer

25. Add a foam kit in the skimmer

26.Do not forget to put a wooden stick to hold the foam

27. Put the skimmer cover in a bag and put it back on place

28. Add winterizing chemical products in the pool

29. Winterize the pool heater if it's the case.

For an electric pool heater or a heat pump

-    Remove the drain plug

-    Blow the air of the pipes

-    Tilt the heater slightly forward

-    Place a cloth on the water heater to prevent dirt and snow from getting inside

For a gaz pool heater

-     Remove the drain plug under the entry and the exit of the water and on the sides

-     Remove and store the pressure switch

-     Blow air inside to purge it

-     Close the gas supply to the main canister or the exit near the main entrance

-     Close the gas supply near the water heater

-     Set the strength indicator to "off" position

-     Set the driver indicator to "off'" position

-     Place a cloth on the water heater to prevent dirt and snow from getting inside

For solar water heater

-     Remove the cap on the maximum line that leads to the panel

-     Blow all the places to be sure there is no water

-     Turn off the circuit breaker that controls the automatic actuator

-     Install the caps with Teflon

30. Store the steps

31. Store light bulbs

32. Store all the small parts inside the pump basket

33. Store the chlorinator and drain water within

34. Discard the contents of the chlorinator in a bag

35. Install the canvas or winter mesh

36. Apply grease on the bolts that could rust during the winter

37. Secure environment of the pool to avoid any risk of injury or drowning

38. Store safely the pool chemicals
