In-Ground Pool Closing

It is important to have a good in-ground pool closing to make it last longer. It will prevent any damage in the filtration system, the structure, leaks and the pool liner. Never stop the pool pump before the pool closing but it is possible to set the thermostat at minimum or stop the pool heater. The manufacturer’s recommandations always prevail on any tips to preserve the pool warranty.

Above-Ground Pool Closing

It is also important to have a good above-ground pool closing or half-ground pool closing to make it last longer and all the reasons mentionned in the in-ground pool closing section. But, you must absolutely keep a good water level to preserve the structure of the above-ground pool. You need to preserve the balance between the pressure caused by water and the structure tension.

In details :

Once the call is placed at Pools and Spas Poseidon, specially trained technicians will come to your home and close your pool on the chosen date. We begin by emptying the pool to 6 inches below the jets with the help of our pump that empties very rapidly. The water is conducted in a canal with going through your filtration system.

We remove your equipment and accessories around the pool. This includes the springboard and its base (when possible), the ladder(s), the jets, the skimmer door, the skimmer basket, the skimmer face plate, cables and toys. We also remove the light bulbs and place the light covers in a plastic bag. If the light is submersible, we remove it from the water and put it in a plastic bag that is then tied outside of the pool to prevent any damage.

We unplug all the pipes to blow the water out with an air compressor. When the pump isn’t covered during the winter, we unplug it completely (electrically and from the water filtration pipes). We purge the pump and put it somewhere safe to prevent any damage from water accumulations.

Then, we prepare your filter for winter:

  • Sand filters : Remove the filter cap(s), remove the pressure gage and put the filter on Winterize
  • Cartridge filter: remove the filter(s), remove the cap(s), purge water completely and remove the pressure gage. We also offer the in-deep cartridge cleaning service (satisfaction guaranteed)

Then we winterize the skimmer: blow the pipes to empty the water and cap the pipes so water doesn’t get back in during the winter, add expansion foam or a gizmo depending on the skimmer or on the client’s preference. If the skimmer connects the bottom drain and the pump, we add antifreeze in the bottom drain and expansion foam. Finally, we had a plastic bag on the cover.

We then go for the other piping circuits. We empty the water the same way by blowing with a compressor. We cap the jets inside the pool so water doesn’t enter during the winter. For above-ground pools we remove all the piping when possible. To avoid losing anything, we put every small part together in a special bag.

We add the closing kit to the pool: liquid winterizer and winter powder with a floater which helps the pool to be as cleared as possible and chemically balanced thus easier to open the next year.

We also winterize these different accessories (small fee could apply on certain items)

  • Winter mesh: Installation of the mesh
  • Water heater: Turn off the system and its circuit breaker, purge water from the heater and its pipes, remove draining plug(s), installation of a protective cover.
  • Solar water heater: Purge water from its pipes, remove draining plug(s) to help remove all the water.
  • Gas-powered heater: Turn off the system and its circuit breaker, purge water from the heater and its pipes, remove draining plug(s),remove pressure gage, close the gas pipes and installation of a protective cover.
  • Spill-over spa : Empty the spa, remove the jets, empty the pipes, add rubber caps to insure pipes stay dry, add a fiberglass cover (if possible) or sand bags in the bottom of the spa and 2 plywood sheets on the spa and a protective cover.
  • Salt system : Unplug the cell, clean the cell with a special product (Lectra Clean on sale in our shop), adding of a special anti-metal and anti-mineral product in the pool, removal of the system (when possible)
  • Pool steps and ladders : Remove any weights and the steps and ladder itself and store in a safe place
  • Waterfall: Remove the waterfall when possible, empty the pipes and cap any open pipes.

The service done by professionals will insure that your pool will live through the winter without any breakage and leaks thus keeping your pool in perfect condition for the years to come. Piece of mind guaranteed!
